ABOUT
Movement – time- and scale. The relationship of this triangle vis-à-vis the human being is involved in all my work. I like it to show small objects as if they are big. The play with perspective is important for me, no matter what kind of material I work with. I love to take themes and objects form daily life and alienate or disguise them by using pigments, colour and tape. I never work with Photoshop.
Works of Brigitte Spiegeler are in various private and company collections
Uwe Schramm, Director Kunsthaus Essen, Germany, in his text on the solo exhibition ‘NO EXIT’ in Kunsthaus Essen:
“Is anyone home?” – The question posed by the artist is in fact addressed to the artist herself. Implied is the possibility of bringing memories back to the present, of experiencing the present differently. The work is, we now realize, an artistically formulated plea for boundless freedom of life and living, the freedom to slip into ever new and different roles – just as one used to do in one’s everyday life as a child – and hence the freedom to choose one’s own way of dropping out of our world of atrocities, violence, lost causes, humiliations and emotional coldness’.
